Dear Friends,
As most of you know, my nieces, nephew and younger brother are very close to my heart.
I actually moved to Chicago 16 years ago to be near them and then they moved back to Florida.
I go and visit them every holiday/ break that I have. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with them and helping them. Unfortunately, I always return with a "heavy heart" and empty wallet because I cannot possibly fill the void for them.
I have tried my best to help raise them in their Mother's absence. I FaceTime the children daily and try to provide stability and unconditional love for them.
In October 2018 their mother attended her 15th Rehab for Drug Addiction after the death of her second husband. She chooses to live in North Carolina, away from her 3 children. She does not provide any child support. The damage her choices have made on the children is irreparable. They have been put in dangerous situations and given empty promises for years.
Their struggle is heartbreaking and continues . Tim is trying his best to maintain his household and a positive future for the kids. Right now, he and the children have not had a car for over 4 months and they do not have the means to purchase or finance a safe, reliable family vehicle.
My brother lost his job at the Florida Catholic Paper in August, so they are behind on most bills.
While managing the 3 kid's busy lives, he is helping out a friend's staffing business but needs help. He walks or takes an Uber to a train to get to the grocery store, appointments, activities, etc. My other brothers and I have funded Uber /Lyfts rides over the past few months and it has been helpful, but expensive.
For example, my niece was working at a pizza place, but the Lyft was costing more than what she was making at her job!
The children are doing fairly well in spite of their circumstances. I see the stress it puts on them and it kills me.
This Christmas the kids didn't ask for anything..
I'm asking for donations to help them purchase a reliable vehicle so that some of their burden will be lifted from them and so that they can maintain some semblance of a normal life. My brother, along with my family's help, has been successful so far in dealing with the myriad of challenges the kids must face and I want to keep it going.
It is very difficult asking for help, and sharing this, but I don't know what else to do.
Also, some family members/ friends have already helped over these past years and we really appreciate it.
Thank you all for considering. I am grateful for anything. Prayers are welcome as well.
Sincerely,
Kelly
