5th December 1941. K177 entered service, being one of the 53 K class locomotives to enter service for the Victorian Railways.
During the locomotive's working life it could be found anywhere on the railway network. Hauling both freight or passenger trains such was the versatility of the locomotive design. Until it was towed for storage to Ararat in 1967.
After many years on display Langi Morgala Museum at Ararat, it was again towed to Crib point for the Mornington Railway Preservation Society's eventual restoration in 1989.
The organisation focus has primarily been on maintaining its current fleet of operational rolling stock and infrastructure, There is now an opportunity for efforts to be placed onto the restoration of the K177.
Small grass roots organisations like the Mornington Railway rely on donations and volunteer contributions. This blog and GoFundMe will document and highlight the important work of our volunteers. If you are in a position to support, any donation will go a long way to helping the return of K177 to operations.
