As many of you know, I am in my second year of graduate school at Pratt Institute. This May, I will be receiving my Master of Science in Dance/Movement Therapy. These past two years have been the extremely rewarding and have provided immense personal growth, but I do not want it to end there.
I will be volunteering at a local non-profit initiative, FUCPE (Fundacion Crecimiento Comunitario Proyectando Esperanza, Inc.), which translates to - Foundation to project growth and hope in the community. This organization is part school, part community center, and part safe haven for the children and families of Villa Caoba. For more information about this organization: FUCPE website
The focus of this trip will be to use art and dance/movement therapy as a tool to empower individuals living in an impoverished community through social action. Our goal is to help empower and educate a community towards community development, so that they receive a hand up and not just a hand out. Please help make this possible.
To get a better understanding of what I would be doing in the DR, please watch the following film of Creative Arts Therapy volunteers who made the trip in 2012.

As I begin my preparations for this special opportunity, it is my hope to appeal to you, my friends and family, in order to help offset the cost of my participation. The cost comes to $1,300 for the weeklong trip (including airfare, room, and board). I will also be bringing a second suitcase full of art supplies, personal hygiene products, and clothing to donate to the people I will be working with. To fill that second suitcase I am trying to raise another $200, making my total goal $1,500.
I would sincerely appreciate your well wishes, support, and if possible, financial help as I prepare for my trip. I will be setting out on March 14th, and it would be most helpful to receive any financial contributions by the first week of March.
I cannot thank you enough for your help in making this beautiful experience possible! I look forward to sharing my experiences with you when I return!
