Justice for Jalani Lovett: A Mother’s Fight for Truth and Accountability
My name is Terry Lovett, and I am the mother of Jalani Lovett — my son, my light, and my heart.
On September 22, 2021, Jalani tragically lost his life while in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at Men’s Central Jail. He was just 27 years old and being held in solitary confinement when he died under deeply suspicious circumstances.
The Sheriff’s Department has claimed that Jalani died of an “accidental overdose.” But what I’ve learned — and what I’ve seen with my own eyes — tells a very different story.
Photos of my son’s body show clear signs of physical trauma. The toxicology report conflicts with the Sheriff’s account. And the coroner’s report is still listed as “deferred,” meaning the true cause of death has never been determined. For the past three years, I have been fighting for answers — and for justice that continues to be denied.
Why I’m Asking for Your Help
I am currently in the process of pursuing justice through the federal court system, but I cannot do it alone. To move forward and secure qualified legal counsel, I urgently need to fund a second, independent autopsy and expert forensic review.
Your donations will help pay for:
The truth about Jalani’s death has been hidden for too long. This autopsy is the key to uncovering what really happened to my son and ensuring that no other family suffers this kind of injustice.

From My Heart
I want to thank every single person who has prayed for me, donated, or simply shared Jalani’s story. I thank God first, and then each of you, for standing beside me in this long, painful battle for truth.
I am still far from reaching the goal I need to fund this second autopsy — but I believe that God will touch the right hearts and bring the right people to help make justice possible.
Please, if you can, donate and share Jalani’s story. Every dollar, every prayer, every share brings us closer to truth, accountability, and healing.
With love and determination, Terry Lovett
