Hi, my name is Zain and I am raising funds for the legal action against a giant company wolt
Over the past months, I’ve experienced and witnessed serious exploitation while working as a courier for Wolt in Finland — and I believe these concerns deserve urgent public attention.
During a global fuel crisis, task fees for couriers were reduced instead of adjusted. At the same time, couriers are not compensated for waiting time — whether it’s 30 minutes at a restaurant or even hours between orders.
In my own experience, I have faced multiple unfair situations:
* Deliveries are underpaid, and distance calculations are often incorrect. For example, a task showed 11.5 km while the actual route was around 14 km due to road closures I had already reported multiple times.
* When I refused to complete such a task without fair compensation, I was given only two options: complete an underpaid delivery or cancel it with consequences.
* Despite traveling approximately 4 km to the pickup location, I was refused even basic compensation for that distance.
* Instead, €35.9 was deducted from my earnings after I declined to continue the task due to unfair conditions and excessive waiting time (around 50 minutes).
* Even unavoidable situations, such as vehicle issues (e.g., a puncture), still result in financial penalties.
The system itself appears to be designed in a way that reduces courier earnings:
* Stacked orders are prioritized in a way that lowers overall pay per delivery.
* Couriers must keep moving constantly — if you stay stationary, the system stops assigning orders.
* Orders are typically calculated one-way only. After completing a delivery far from central areas, couriers are expected to return at their own cost before receiving new tasks.
* Instead of assigning orders near the courier’s current location, the system often forces inefficient movement, increasing costs for the courier.
Additional ongoing concerns include:
* Tasks being offered for as low as €3 — even for long distances (e.g., stacked orders of up to 15 km paying around €2.99)
* No compensation for waiting time at restaurants or delays during orders
* No support during active delivery issues
* Penalization for incorrect customer pin locations, even when the courier follows the given address
* Increasing pressure to accept all orders regardless of fairness
There are also serious concerns about courier wellbeing:
* No sick leave, insurance, pension, or long-term security
* Many couriers (including myself) operate under rented accounts, a situation widely known but not effectively addressed
* Continuous work without proper rest due to financial pressure
Additionally, there are concerns about platform practices affecting customers:
* Customers are often charged extra for “priority” or “fast” delivery, even when couriers are already available nearby
* Orders may be delayed strategically, encouraging customers to pay additional fees
Because of these experiences, I have decided to take legal action against Wolt. I am already in discussions with a lawyer, but legal proceedings are expensive.
I have started a GoFundMe campaign to support this case: https://gofund.me/23845fbeb
