We are reaching out to you in a time of crisis and great injustice.

Southern Colorado Harm Reduction — a vital nonprofit serving our most vulnerable neighbors with dignity and respect — has recently been taken over by a small group of individuals claiming control of the board.

This three-person faction has acted in direct violation of the organization’s bylaws, with clear conflicts of interest and a disturbing disregard for their fiduciary responsibilities. Also blocking any new, qualified individuals from joining the board for over six months.

Without due process or just cause, they wrongfully terminated the founder and CEO — a dedicated leader who built this organization from the ground up.

Even more horrifying, this firing was done in front of staff, with the CEO physically assaulted in the process. This traumatizing event shocked and devastated our team and community.

This violent and humiliating act violated not only basic human decency but the very core values of our organization: Dignity, Respect, and Compassion.

Since then, this group has continued to cause irreparable harm:

Denying staff’s pleas to remove the board member who committed the assault.

Spreading false narratives about the organization’s finances to cast doubt on the integrity of our CEO — despite full transparency and continued trust from our funders, who know these claims are untrue.

Firing two additional staff members without cause, destabilizing lives and disrupting services to those who need them most.

Creating an oppressive environment in which staff are told not to communicate with funders and the public about what has happened.

Not including internal leadership staff in communications and decision making.

We believe this is a hostile takeover, not leadership.

We believe in accountability, transparency, and justice.

Challenge the unlawful actions taken by this “board.”

Support staff and their families who have been affected and may continue to lose their jobs due to these retaliatory actions.
