Intro
My name is Amanda Grace Meredith. My children and I live in Vermont. I am a survivor of domestic abuse, and the sole legal and physical custodian of my three children since 2019.
Despite two court enforcement orders in my favor (Sept 2023 and March 2024), my ex-husband has continued to withhold support.
The arrears have now reached over $123,000.
I have taken on crushing debt, even facing the possibility of bankruptcy, just to keep my children safe, our mortgage paid, the lights on, food in our refrigerator, gas in the car, and the chance for them to continue thriving in the sports and activities they love.
Full Story
My name is Amanda Grace Meredith, and I go by Amanda Grace on my social media platform. I am a survivor of domestic abuse. For 10 ½ years, my marriage was defined by coercive control — I was expected to comply with demands or face emotional punishment, threats, and sometimes physical harm. I lived in fear of what would happen if I said 'no.'
In 2019, I filed for divorce, and the court granted me sole legal and physical custody of my children, reaffirmed again in 2020. Since then, I alone have carried the responsibility of raising, protecting, and providing for them.
But even years later, the pattern of abuse continues — now through financial manipulation.
Court Has Ruled — Still No Justice
The arrears now total over $123,000.
And this isn’t because the courts haven’t acted. In fact:
- In September 2023, the court granted my enforcement motion for unpaid support.
- In March 2024, the court granted another enforcement motion, again ordering compliance.
Yet despite these rulings, my children’s father continues to pay only what he wants, how he wants, and when he chooses. It is the same cycle of coercion from our marriage, carried forward through financial abuse years after divorce.
This money isn’t optional. It is what keeps our mortgage paid, the lights on, food in the refrigerator, gas in the car, and my children able to keep participating in the sports where they thrive.
No Protections. No Relief.
Even with documented video evidence of abuse, the State of Vermont has provided no meaningful protections for me or my children.
Because of financial strain, I could no longer afford legal counsel. I had to make an impossible choice:
➡️ Pay for ongoing representation, OR
➡️ Provide for my children’s basic needs.
I chose my children. But that means I have been left to represent myself against attorneys, carrying this battle alone while drowning in debt.
Transparency and Verification
- Public filings are available through the Vermont Judiciary’s website.
- Videos documenting the abuse are on my social media platforms.
I want donors to know: my words are not exaggerations. This is the truth we live every day.
Why I Need Help
Your donation will:
- Help me retain an attorney to finally enforce child support orders
- Cover court and filing fees
- Keep our mortgage paid, lights on, food in the refrigerator, gas in the car
- Allow my children to continue in the sports and activities where they thrive
Why This Matters
This is not only my story. It’s the story of survivors everywhere, forced to endure financial abuse long after leaving an abuser.
I am tired. I am scared. But I cannot stop. My children’s futures depend on it.
