Legal Support Justice for Kobe Heisler Dimock
Right now the attention of the world is focused on justice for ALL victims of Police Brutality. This campaign is asking for your help in getting justice for Kobe Heisler-Dimock's family as the worlds eyes are once again turned to Brooklyn Center Minnesota after the murder of yet another young man.
Kobe Heisler was unjustly and unnecessarily killed by Brooklyn Center police in on Sat. Aug. 31st, 2019. His family is still seeking answers and justice for his murder at the hands of the police. There are glaring oversights and inconsistencies that are only coming to light after the tragic murder of Daunte Wright at the hands of former BCPD police officer Kim Potter.
Potter was the president of the Brooklyn Center Police Officer's Association. In that role, she has represented other officers involved in deadly shootings.
According to an investigation by the Hennepin County Attorney's office, Potter was one of the first officers to arrive after police shot and killed Kobe Dimock-Heisler in 2019. Investigative records show Potter advised the officers during the early stages of the investigation and was present when one officer gave his statement. Brandon Akers and Cody Turner and got away with murder with the help of
Kimberly Potter.
On Wednesday 8/6/2020 the Hennepin County attorney declined to press charges against the Brooklyn Center Police officers who murdered Kobe Dimock Heisler on 8/31/2019. The Hennepin County Attorney's office should never have been in charge of prosecuting Kobe's case. In information that has just come to light.
According to the Legal Rights Center press release in the wake of Daunte Wright's death: "There are also disturbing inconsistencies in the role that the Hennepin County Attorney's Office ("HCAO") has played in determining charges against law enforcement involved in the killing of our community members. Despite a June 2020 agreement to refer these cases to other offices for prosecution- the rationale cited for passing responsibility for this case to the Washington County Attorney- the HCAO made their own decisions not to charge police officers involved in the killings of Kobe Dimock-Heisler and Chaiser Vue. The inconsistency is glaring."
Kobe's parents have worked tirelessly to try to find answers in their own son's murder all while campaigning for justice for All Stolen Lives and working with legislators to change how the police in Minnesota respond to mental health and wellness checks.
There is current legislation in the Minnesota Legislature "Kobe's Bill" that would Require Access to Body Worn Camera Footage in Police Critical Incidents within 48 Hours (HF 1103, SF 807) link to bill here because Kobe's family had to wait almost 9 months to see what happened on the day.
This campaign was set up to provide funds for legal fees as Kobe's family's continues their fight to bring these killer cops to justice, to fight to have Kobe's case and all other cases reopened, and to change the justice system that has for so long worked to shield police from any
accountability.
