JUSTICE FOR JOYCE CLARKE CAMPAIGN

Donation protected

On behalf of Aunty Ann Jones - Mother, Stop Black Deaths in Custody are honored to support the "JUSTICE FOR JOYCE CLARKE CAMPAIGN".

On Tuesday 19th September 2019, a 29 year old Yamatji woman, Joyce Clarke, was shot by police on a residential street in the regional town of Geraldton, Western Australia. Ms Clarke died shortly after being taken by ambulance to hospital.

It is not the first time the Geraldton community has encountered a sudden death at the hands of police. A 22 year old Yamatji woman known as Ms Dhu grew up in the town, and died in police custody over unpaid fines in Port Hedland in 2014.

Ms Clarke, a Mother of one, had mental health issues and was recently released from prison when she was shot. The Family and supporters have demanded to know why lethal force was used.

COURT CASE - Murder Charges on Police Officer began

On Monday, 4th October 2021, trail began - The first-class constable, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was one of eight officers who responded to a call from a member of the public saying they had seen someone on the road with a knife in the regional West Australian city of Geraldton in 2019.

Only three officers had gotten out of their vehicles when the constable shot and killed the 29-year-old Yamatji woman. He was the only officer to draw his gun.

The jury, which found him not guilty of both murder and manslaughter, deliberated for three hours before delivering the verdict.

It was the beginning of a long emotional, frustrating & exhausting, four weeks Trial Hearing for the Death Of Joyce Clarke (Rip) At District Court In Perth WA.
