Justice for Job Garcia: U.S. Citizen Detained, Abused by ICE

Donation protected
Our brother, Job Garcia, a 37-year-old doctoral student at Claremont Graduate University, is a U.S. citizen. Yet, on a seemingly ordinary morning while picking up an order for a customer at Home Depot, his life was turned upside down. At 7:59 a.m. on June 17th, he sent a chilling text to our brother Elias: "Hey Elias me agarro ICE" – "ICE got me."

Since that moment, our family has been in a nightmare. Job was arrested and booked into a federal detention facility downtown. For days, we were left grappling with agonizing questions: Was this a case of racial profiling? Was he attempting to help someone else? We simply didn't know, and the lack of information only amplified our distress.

The good news is, Job has been released, and it appears no charges were pressed against him. This is a huge relief, but the ordeal is far from over. Compounding this injustice, we've learned that Job endured physical abuse at the hands of ICE agents during his detention. This revelation is heartbreaking and infuriating. No one, especially a U.S. citizen, should ever be subjected to such treatment.

Job's wrongful detention has had immediate and significant consequences for him and our family. While he hasn't lost his job entirely, he did lose a couple of days of crucial work, impacting his ability to earn and meet his financial obligations. More importantly, Job is now dealing with the trauma of what he experienced.

Fighting for Justice and Raising Awareness
Job is determined to take action. He wants to sue ICE for the problems and harm they caused him, and equally important, he wants to bring awareness to the mistreatment of the people they are detaining. His story is a stark reminder that even U.S. citizens are vulnerable to the unchecked power of immigration authorities, and that the conditions within detention facilities can be horrific.

To pursue justice for Job and to shine a light on these critical issues, we are now facing significant financial burdens, including:
* Legal expenses: We desperately need to secure experienced legal representation to pursue a lawsuit against ICE, investigate the circumstances of his unlawful detention and abuse, and fight for accountability. This will be a complex and costly legal battle.
* Lost wages: Even a few days of lost work created a financial strain, especially when unexpected legal costs arise.
* Medical and therapeutic support: The physical and emotional trauma Job has endured will require professional help to heal.

How You Can Help
We are reaching out to our community, friends, and anyone who believes in justice to help us bring Job home and support him through this incredibly difficult time. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a direct impact on our ability to cover these critical expenses and fight for what is right.
Please help us ensure Job gets the justice and support he deserves, and help us empower him to be a voice for others who have suffered similar injustices. Your generosity can make a profound difference in reuniting our family and allowing Job to resume his life, free from fear, and with the hope of creating change.

Thank you for your compassion and support.
