I am speaking for all the mums and dads of Looe and Polperro. We are a small fishing community with strong bonds and we all look out for each other.
In August a tragic event happened in Polperro and our beloved Elaine Harman passed away with her husband. They left 2 beautiful 15-year-old twins behind whose lives have been devastated. The event was devastating for the family and the wider community as Elaine was the kindest of souls, a loving mother, dog owner and appreciated nature. Elaine was a keen fisherwoman and could compete with any fisherman anytime.
Her absence leaves a hole in all of our hearts, but of course the loss to her family is unimaginable. Elaine’s whole family have rallied around of course. Elaine’s lovely sister Tracey and her husband Kevin immediately took their nieces and Elaine’s dog into their home, despite having 3 teenage girls and a dog of their own.
If life could not be any worse, previous to Elaine’s passing Tracey and Kevin were served with an eviction notice from their landlord as he wanted the property back. Despite their harrowing circumstances they have been showed little mercy in finding new accommodation.
They now have new accommodation on a part buy/ rent scheme. This is fantastic news other than that it is a 3 bedroom house with one shower room. Tracey and Kevin will have to sleep in the lounge to give accommodation to the 5 girls until they can raise the money for an extension which could be in the region of £30,000- £40,000.
Sadly they also can’t go on family trips as there are now 7 of them and 2 dogs and they need help to buy a people carrier.
These are good people who are grieving, trying to deal with the grief of their nieces and daughters, one who isn’t very well and have had to move house. I can’t even imagine the level of support they are having to give to these 5 children whilst grieving themselves. Please can we help, this family need a chance? xx
