On October 28, 2022, our lives were forever changed when my daughter, Camberleigh Ann Burns, tragically lost her life due to the reckless actions of William (Ryker) Matthews. This heartbreaking incident not only took away our precious girl but also left our family grappling with immense grief and unanswered questions.

Camberleigh, who was just shy of her 2nd birthday, suffered devastating injuries, including blunt force trauma, due to Matthews' inattentiveness while driving. Despite his history of driving infractions, he has yet to face justice for the consequences of his actions. We believe it is crucial to hold him accountable to prevent future tragedies.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, I was advised by my lawyer's office to accept a settlement under the belief that the Commonwealth would pursue prosecution. However, the settlement process felt unjust, as it required us to pursue Matthews' parents' assets, which seemed wrong since he has none of his own. Financial compensation could never amount to the future that Camberleigh deserved. We seek not only the appropriate legal consequences for Matthews, as his actions have irreparably altered our lives. But we also want change so as this will never happen to another parent.

Statistics show that over 90% of automobile crashes in the U.S. result from driver error, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws. We refuse to let Camberleigh's death be another statistic.

To raise awareness and advocate for justice, we are organizing a public rally on July 12th at Jefferson Square Garden in Downtown, Louisville. We invite you to join us and stand in solidarity with our family as we seek to reopen Camberleigh's case and hold those responsible accountable.
