On Wednesday 7/23/25 approximately @ 11:06 p.m. my husband, and his friend were walking down the road with our mini bikes. His friends girlfriend was in the car with me and we were on the phone talking to them so we could pick them up. We were approximately 2 minutes away. We went from talking to hearing noise that I can’t even describe. Next we hear my husbands friend yell for my husband. We get to them and my husband had been brutally injured by a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly down the road. The driver who hit him was on scene when EMS and authorities arrive. My husband had to be airlifted to the hospital in Champaign, IL a hour drive from Mattoon, IL. My husband sustained multiple critical injuries. He had patches of skin missing on his arms, legs, hands and 2 small ones on his head, a broken collar bone, broken speculum, severe damage to left and right carotid arteries, broken leg that needed surgery, severe brain injuries. On 7/25/25 my husband passed away. We’ve been in Mattoon for 9 months and we’re working on starting our business. We don’t have any life insurance, I am a stay at home wife. My husband was a good man, a loving father and very well loved and respected in our community. He would literally give his last and the clothes off his back to the shoes on his feet to someone in need. The driver who brutally hit my husband has not been in custody. It took almost 3 days of calling MATTOON PD before anyone would tell me anything about the accident . I finally got a case number and person to contact. I have attained a lawyer because the man that did this needs to be held accountable. I need help with funeral cost, travel expenses, and medical bills. Since my husband will be transported and buried in another state there is an extra charge of 2500.00 dollars on top of what they asking for the arrangements. I’m looking for employment while trying to plan a funeral, file a lawsuit, and grieve. My family and I need justice and the help.
