Juneteenth Journey 2021

Juneteenth is the anniversary of the day the last slaves were informed of their freedom, which came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth 2020 was a landmark year for the anniversary of this momentous event, as the first Juneteenth celebration in Carmel, CA was held. Over 200 hundred people attended this one day event and many more joined through our live broadcast. The community raised over $1,000 that day, which was gifted to the Seaside NAACP Youth Council to offset their annual school supply drive.

In a quest for oneness and community following the 2020 event, the Juneteenth Coalition was born. The mission of Juneteenth Coalition, a Monterey Peninsula non-profit, is to understand and uplift our community through advocacy, immersive experience and the fostering of local economics.

The plan for our 2021 Juneteenth celebration is far more ambitious. Built on The Four Pillars of Juneteenth: understanding, empathy, uplift and empowerment; each one of our five Juneteenth celebration days will represent these pillars and our activities will focus around those concepts. This year we will have seven events over the course of five days, to include a theater performance, a car rally, solidarity field work, a feast, lawn party, golf scramble and formal closing soiree.

Given the breadth of this year’s journey, we are asking for your assistance in making our offering deeply meaningful. Our aim is to raise $50,000 to provide a poignant and educational Juneteenth experience.
