Many people do not know how strenuous the adoption process is—and for good reason. Several months ago, we began completing hundreds of pages of paperwork, writing essays, hours of training, interviews, and even more; but our journey towards adoption did not start there. Our journey towards adoption began many years ago; before we were married, before we dated and before we even met. We have both grown a desire to adopt throughout our lives.
While we have talked about it throughout our time together, it never felt like the right time to adopt; adoption is an expensive and sometime lengthy process, and can be emotionally difficult for all parties involved. In 2018, we realized that we could not wait around for what we felt like was the right time, because that would never come around.
As we begin this process many of you have asked how you could help--well the truth is, that no matter what costs we anticipate, there will always be something unexpected. Plus all of the initial costs from having a new child move into their new home (clothes, furniture, etc.).
Would you consider helping us financially as you are able? We are seeking to raise a total of $30,000. Here is a more detailed breakdown of the costs involved:
Application Fee - $350
Home Study Fee - $2,900
Preparation Training - $400
Profile Fee - $6,000
Placement Fee - $13,000
Post-Placement visits - $1,200
Birth Parent Expenses - $1,500
Adoption Attorney Fees - $3,000-$4,000
Total Fees: 29,050
Also, being that our home study has been finalized, we are on the waiting list and could receive a placement anytime! We can not actually know how long the wait will be (some have waited anytime between a few months and two years), but it is wise to begin furnishing our nursery with some basic essentials in the coming weeks. We are including an additional $1,000 to help us purchase a few of these items to get started!
Total estimated cost - $30,000 (depending on the actual cost for the lawyers).
We know it seems like a lot when you look at it, but we are also confident that together we can make it happen. Our goal is to raise 50% of that cost. If we may be blessed enough to raise even more than what we end up needed, we would be excited to be able to donate the funds to Holt-Sunny Ridge , the adoption agency we are using. These funds would not only help us, but they would help serve children and build families, provide services for birth parents in need, and subsidize future adoptions.
