Hello Everyone!
My name is Julio Colon-Laboy and I am a rising Sophomore in the College of Nursing & Health Science at the University of Vermont. If you know me, you know that it is my life goal to hug, make laugh, and bless as many people as I can in a day. This summer, I have the opportunity to do that in Nicaragua.
I have the privilege to serve as an intern with Metanoia Missions for five weeks this summer and help them along several service projects during my time there. Metanoia engages in several community advancing projects such as Feeding Programs, Medical/Dental Outreach, Widow’s Home, Wheelchair Distribution, Leadership Training, and entrepreneurial undertakings like Joy Bean Coffee and Joy Baking Company. You can visit www.metanoiamissions.org to learn more about each individual area of service in more detail.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to serve with Metanoia Missions for 10 days and the experience was life changing. I learned so much about what it means to bless people in times of need and how to engage in healthy and sustainable community development in a culture that is so unlike the one that I grew up in.
Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and the need there is great. My task after college is to spend time in countries like Nicaragua to improve their healthcare. As an intern this summer, I will have the opportunity to get a taste of that dream through the Medical/Dental initiatives that are already in place as well as Wheelchair Distribution. During my time at Nicaragua, my church and I were among the first to relaunch the Wheelchair Distribution project that provides free wheelchairs to terminally ill adolescent and adult patients as well as recent amputee patients. I cannot wait to engage in this work again!
I just want to express how much my heart beats for this cause day-in and day-out. So many people wish to provide the time and energy to help and work for causes such as the ones that Metanoia Missions is currently doing; but simply do not have the time to commit. I hope that through your financial contribution and prayers you can partake and partner with me to provide me the opportunity to take my internship with Metanoia Missions.
The expenses for my trip include airfare, living expenses, and meals for the five weeks in Nicaragua, as well as funds to offset the fees incurred by GoFundMe. My first half of my fundraising goal is especially imperative because it accounts for my airfare, which tends to increase as time advances and I would love to secure those tickets as soon as I can!
If you can give towards this cause, thank you so much! If not, thank you for taking time out of your day to read about my cause!
God Bless You All!
