Hello, My name is Corena Fernandez - I’m writing this on behalf of my mom Kimberly, who, on June 16th, 2022, around 8:30 pm, was hit by a silver F-150 truck while walking my 2-year-old son to my gym (Black Lotus Gym) in Downtown Lake Worth.

While pushing my son in his stroller, she began crossing Federal Highway at a pedestrian walkway on the corner of Lucerne Ave and Federal Hwy. A stopped truck began accelerating toward her -As she realized the truck was not stopping or slowing down, she was able to push my son out of the way towards the center of the road, where thankfully there was no oncoming traffic at the moment. I can’t thank God and my mom enough for how she quickly reacted. She literally saved his life.

The truck slightly swerved as not to hit her head on and instead hit her on her left side, sending her flying 4 feet in the air and landing on her right arm & shoulder. The truck continued to speed away from the scene, leaving my 2-year-old son and mom in the middle of Federal Hwy. Luckily nearby pedestrians were able to help my son and mom off of the road. My son was completely unharmed, thank God!!

Palm Beach Sheriffs and an ambulance arrived about 5 minutes later. The bystanders were able to remember the license plate number and gave the information to the sheriff in charge - but we were told that it did not match the vehicle description when they ran it in on the scene.

From the impact of the truck, my mom suffered bruised ribs on both sides, damage to her right wrist & shoulder and broke her right arm (more specifically, she fractured her radial head in her elbow).

3 days later she was fired from her job, from which she had no medical coverage.

I prolonged making this goal because I thought an attorney would help her find some justice & financially get help, but Upon speaking with one, because the incident report from the sheriff did not include any details in regards to vehicle description, license plate information or witness information, it was a closed case.

Hospital bills charged to her auto insurance exceeded $90,000. Her surgery was quoted anywhere from $8,000-$17,000 (self pay quote). She is in the process of getting state medical insurance to get her surgery, so these funds will financially help her with all the payments she’s already made, what insurance doesn’t include and then living expenses for now/once she gets her surgery. (Rent, food, bills)

My mom is not the type to ask for help, which is why I created this for her - and although she’s a very tough woman and able to push through a lot physically/mentally/emotionally, she is in need of help.

She is a freelance Fine Artist who offers prints & commission pieces. www.frimel.com

In addition, she has a mental health support products line, “The Emotional Me”, which offers shirts, pillows, journals and more. This is a growing project with the mission of helping people who suffer from mental health issues. “Products with a greater purpose” www.theemotionalme.com

Today I’m asking for any support that can be given towards this goal or supporting her business; even if it's buying one shirt, it is helping her support and grow her business.

If you know anyone who is looking for freelance work or is interested in purchasing prints or products - please spread the word and help promote her small business.

Thank you For reading this far and for any consideration you’ve had towards supporting. Please keep her in your prayers. God bless!
