Juliana’s Mission with Mercy Ships
Donation protected
This summer I am excited to have the opportunity to go to Africa to serve as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse for Mercy Ships.
On July 5th, I will be departing on a medical mission trip to Madagascar for 3 months. Madagascar is located off the East Coast of Africa, and it is the 4th largest island in the world. With poverty affecting 92% of the population, this island ranks fourth in the world for chronic malnutrition. Nearly 50% of the children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition with stunted growth. Medical care in Madagascar is limited, especially in rural areas, and is very expensive compared to the average income of the population. The Ministry of Health in Madagascar is in the process of opening a medical facility in each rural community on the island but is lacking providers and resources. I will be serving aboard The Africa Mercy, which will be docked in Madagascar for 10 months. The Africa Mercy is a 152-meter ship with 8 decks. The hospital contains 5 operating rooms, 75 acute care beds, and 5 intensive care beds, along with dedicated classroom space and simulation labs for training local medical professionals. During this time, Mercy Ships will collaborate with The Ministry of Health in aims to provide more that 1,150 free surgeries. The life-changing surgeries conducted will include cleft-lip and palate correction, cataract removal, orthopedic and reconstructive plastic surgery, and dental care.
I am beyond excited to be able to share the incredible wonder of God through nursing. All personnel serving on Mercy Ships are volunteers, therefore this mission would benefit financial support. I need to raise $4,500 to cover flights, personal immunizations and medications, insurance, and necessities while on the ship. I do not ask this lightly, and hope that you will reflect prayerfully on the chance to help share in aiding God’s Kingdom.
If you have any questions about my mission or would like to learn more I would love to talk to you about it! Thank you for the support and prayers.
