COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the Pilsen neighborhood. The resulting economic downturn has affected many of our Juarez Community Academy families. Students and parents have become sick and in many cases have lost their only source of income leaving them struggling to afford food, clothing, medicine, utilities, and rent. These issues have been compounded by the fact that many families are unable to get Federal and State support leaving some students no choice but to take high-risk jobs as essential workers to help their families survive. As the winter months lie ahead, the challenges these families face will only increase.
In an effort to support our students and their families, teachers and staff have created a relief fund that distributes donations directly to those in our school community who need it most. Through an application/evaluation process, we distribute funds to families that have contracted COVID-19, have lost employment, as well as undocumented families impacted.
We are in urgent need of your help! Please consider donating so we can provide relief for as many families as we can, every dollar counts!
**Note: This solidarity fund is in no way affiliated with Juarez Community Academy or CPS. This is an effort put forth by community members for our school community. This is NOT a tax-deductible contribution - solidarity not charity**
