Help Kat Face the Unknown
My long time roommate and close family friend, Kat, came to the U.S. at just 3 years old after her mother married an American soldier. She grew up here, but her childhood was marked by abuse, instability, and very few resources. She arrived without a birth certificate or official documents, and despite everyone else in her family gaining citizenship, Kat was left out.
Her final court case is this Tuesday. At that time, she will be taken into custody and sent to a holding center to await deportation. Kat has no family in Panama, does not speak Spanish, and has no idea what awaits her. She is facing being sent to a country she has never known, with almost nothing to her name.
We are raising money to give Kat a cushion during this difficult transition to cover basic necessities, temporary housing, food, and anything she may urgently need so she can face this with a little more comfort and security. Any amount, big or small, will make a difference in helping her land on her feet.
