Joyland Prime Academy
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Nina and I’m currently 4 weeks into my 2 month trip volunteering at a primary school in Likoni, Mombassa (Kenya).
During my time here it has been so surreal and eye opening to see the conditions that the children and communities live in here in Likoni.
The school I’m volunteering at is called Joyland Prime Academy and I currently teach to toddlers. The children are all so kind and so clever. However something which has proved to be extremely difficult is the lack of resources available to the school due to insufficient funds. The lack of money has resulted in almost no teacher or students having textbooks for their classes. Their workbooks are falling apart and each child is limited to one pen as they do not have access to any more. Some students have to share a pen or pencil which limits the amount of work they can do in a lesson. Lessons like PE and Art are extremely basic as the school lacks balls, rackets, ropes, paints etc.
The way of teaching differs extremely from the education I have received in the Netherlands, as well as other volunteers on the project. It is truly heartbreaking to see these amazing children not having the opportunity to a solid education due to a lack of resources.
So please, help us help them to a chance of a better education and therefor a better future.
Any donations are extremely appreciated and will go so far in helping supply this school with the relevant supplies.
All my thanks and love. Nina and the rest of the Joyland community.
