My heart was awakened to the plight of the women and children of Uganda when I heard their story through the traveling Watoto Children's Choir when I was in Raleigh, North Carolina. Nearly ten years later, I saw them again in Sydney, Australia. Like before, they sang with life, full of energy, zeal and hope. Lives that have risen from the ashes. I want to help many like them to rise.
I am a widow. I raised three young children ages 3, 5 and 8, who are now adults. I know what it's like to be both mother and father, friend and disciplinarian, teacher and coach, breadwinner and wound-dresser.
So it is not a surprise that I have a soft heart for widows and orphans.
I am going to Uganda in September to join a Watoto medical mission to provide medical care for widows and orphans and the surrounding communities. I'm not a doctor but I am a good leader and housekeeper. I can inspire and motivate, plan and organise. I can 'roll up my sleeves' to ease the burden on medical staff. I can encourage and pray.
You can be part of this mission. I am raising $7,500, with $5,000 going to the medical mission and $2,500 towards partially funding my travel expenses. (I am also contributing $2,500 for my travel expenses.)
Every contribution is valued. May you be generous according to the measure you've been blessed.
