Help Me Reunite with My Son & Fight for Justice

Hi, my name is Joy. I never imagined I would be in this position—fighting just to be in my own child’s life. But after enduring nearly seven years of abuse, I have no choice but to ask for help.

For six years, I was trapped in a physically and emotionally abusive marriage, completely isolated from my family, most of whom are thousands of miles away in Kenya. When my little boy became a target of the abuse, I knew we had to escape. We found refuge in a women’s shelter and obtained two protective orders to keep both of us safe.

But my abuser didn’t care about my son’s well-being—only about maintaining control. When I moved forward with the divorce, he retaliated by seeking full custody, using his financial advantage against me. As a stay-at-home mom with no resources of my own, I was given an impossible choice. My attorney warned me that she would walk away if I didn’t agree to my husband’s demands, leaving me completely unrepresented. That meant remaining trapped in a life-threatening marriage where I feared for my life and my son’s.

Desperate and with no other options, I told the judge that I had no intention of accepting my limited access to my son. I vowed to become financially independent as quickly as possible and return to fight for my rights as his mother. But in the meantime, the legal system failed me. My son was placed under a retaliatory protective order based on lies, restricting me to just 15 minutes of contact per week—on a monitored app. That order finally ended on August 31, 2024, but my battle is far from over.

Now, after months of rebuilding my life, I have a full-time job and the emotional strength to stand up for my son. But I cannot do it alone. I need legal representation to prove the truth, ensure my child’s safety, and bring him home where he belongs.
