The purpose of this campaign is to raise money for two Black founded Organizations: Inspiring Minds and RTDC.
Inspiring Minds is a youth organization founded by Deryck Toles in 2006. Like most youth orgs IM focuses specifically on education and experience for all but caters specifically to Black and Brown youth in low to mid level income communities. What makes them special for me is the personal attachment. IM was founded in my hometown of Warren, OH, a small town where exposure to many cultural events did not and still doesn't exist. Deryck used his platform, as an ex-NFL player, to bring a lot of these events and experiences "home" allowing youth (me included) to see more of what the world had to offer.
RTDC or Ride to DC was founded by Hilena Tibebe who wanted to raise awareness around racial disparities in the bike community and focus on redefining what cyclist look like by putting together a ride that will take cyclist from NY to DC to take part in the March on Washington.
