Jordanhill families for inclusion

We are a group of Jordanhill residents who, with your support and for the benefit of the whole community, seek to challenge the admissions policy of Jordanhill School.

Jordanhill School accepts that there is a need for change and clearly set out to do this, only to be challenged by its ‘Members’ (Members are parents or guardians of pupils of Jordanhill school).’ Recently, the Jordanhill board had approved the amalgamation of lists 1 & 2, despite this being agreed by the board, the ‘Members’ voted to reject the changes, which in turn would have brought it more in line with other local authority schools, furthermore in rejecting the board’s recommendation Jordanhill school lost out on a £2 million contribution from Cala homes.

This ‘Members’ vote went against the recommendation of the school that’s educating their children.  Jordanhill School is a registered charity which is fully funded by the Scottish Government. The ‘Members’ had earlier been advised by the Board of Managers of the school: 'Whatever way members choose to cast their vote it must be clear that the status quo for List 1 is not a sustainable option'. We couldn’t agree more, the school's admission policy is unfair, and with ‘Members’ voting against these changes, we now seek a legal opinion on our options.

The school's capacity, as well as local house prices, would appear to be the main drivers behind the way in which members chose to vote. However, we can see no justification for denying all children in the area an equal chance to gain access to their local school . You can help change this by joining us in our efforts to take this to the next stage. Please do it for the local children of today and of the future, so the community can once again unite in support of one another and our local school.

Your support will help fund a legal opinion and consultation regarding the school's admissions policy with a view to addressing the ongoing disparity that sees local children who have lived in the area for years automatically leapfrogged by other children new to the area on account of them living in particular named roads and properties.

To move forward we require the funds as soon as possible to enable us to appoint a QC for the first stage of our challenge, thereafter we will report this to the school for their consideration, prior to taking further action, if required.

We will keep an audit of all the contributions and will arrange for an independent audit to be carried out. Any residual funds will be refunded pro-rata. We appreciate that everyone’s financial circumstances are different so any size of donation you can afford to help defray the costs we have incurred on behalf of the group will be hugely appreciated.
