On July 7th, the Jorae family—Brad, Kristen, and their two daughters Sophie (14) and Norah (9)—experienced a tragic house fire. Thankfully, the family is safe and physically unharmed, and they currently have a roof over their heads at a family member’s home. However, they are starting from scratch, as all their belongings have been destroyed.

Brad is my best friend, a 17-year firefighter and current Captain with the Lansing Fire Department, as well as a dedicated former union president for Local 421. He has consistently placed the needs of others ahead of his own and lives life to leave everything better than he found it. Kristen has served as a nurse for 20 years, also dedicating her life to caring for others. She is a great friend, mother, wife, and community member.
