Jonnu Smith is the Week 7 NFLPA Community MVP after he and several of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates visited about 100 inmates at the State Correctional Institute at Fayette. Among that group was Jonnu's older brother, Wayne, who has been in prison since

2010.

Joining Jonnu on their day off to offer words of encouragement to the inmates were Pat Freiermuth, Connor Heyward, Corliss Waitman, Calvin Anderson and Matt Sokol. Representatives from culinary-based nonprofit Community Kitchen Pittsburgh also gave a presentation on its training programs, apprenticeships and transitional employment opportunities.

Since signing with the Steelers this past offseason, the ninth-year tight end has been able to visit his brother more frequently, while also extending the reach of his ongoing charitable work through the Jonnu Smith Foundation. Its mission is to empower the next generation through education, media and sports, as well as improving the lives of those in food and housing-insecure communities.

In recognition of Smith being named NFLPA Community MVP for Week 7, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) will donate $10,000 to his nonprofit of choice. Along with the other Community MVPs from this season, he will also be eligible for the Alan Page Community Award,

which is the NFLPA’s highest player honor and includes an additional $100,000 donation.
