Hi, my name is Jonas and I am turning six this week and it’s my golden birthday in four days! With today being the first day that many families in Alaska will lose SNAP benefits, I want to help out the kids with birthdays by making birthday cake kits with shelf stable ingredients that I can donate to the food bank.

Each kit will include the following:

Box of cake mix

Can of frosting

Can of Sprite to replace eggs and oil

Writing icing to decorate the cake

A special happy birthday candle

A happy birthday banner

A kid‘s birthday card

My mom and I are going to the store today to get all the ingredients for the first five birthday cake kits. It will cost about $150 to include everything above for the birthday kits. We’ve clipped coupons and shopped sales and will try to buy some things in bulk or multi packs to lower the cost.
