Let's come together to support little Jonah in his courageous battle against neuroblastoma. Your donation can help ease the financial toll on his family. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a difference. Thank you for your kindness and support
For more of Jonah’s story, his mum Rochelle has written a short piece below describing their journey ….
On the 30th June last year, after being sent to the local hospital for an X-ray for a wheezy chest, we were given the devastating news that our beautiful 8 month old boy, Jonah, had a 9cm tumour on his spine. We were then sent by ambulance to the children's oncology ward at Queens Medical Centre which would become our 2nd home over the next several months. Within those first few days, Jonah required multiple blood tests, a CT scan, MRI scan, MIBG scan and surgery to fit a Hickman line and take biopsy’s of his tumour and bone marrow so they could get a full diagnosis. The results confirmed that Jonah has Neuroblastoma. Jonah was categorised as intermediate risk and initially required 2-4 rounds of chemotherapy to shrink the tumour as it was too large to remove with surgery.
After bravely completing 4 cycles of chemotherapy, the tumour had shrunk by a third, however, Jonah then had to endure an additional two cycles of intense chemotherapy to further shrink the tumour before they could consider him for surgery. Due to the toxicity of the chemotherapy drugs, Jonah spent a lot of time in his local hospital suffering from neutropenia and fevers. He required daily injections to boost his white blood cell production and has needed multiple blood and platelet transfusions over the last 7 months.
Jonah's latest MRI scan showed further reduction of the tumour, however, we have been advised against resection at this time due to the location and risks involved. At the moment, Jonah is recovering from the chemotherapy and being observed with regular tests and scans to monitor the Neuroblastoma.
This month, Jonah had a full X-ray of his spine due to the tumour pushing against it causing kyphoscoliosis. Jonah’s spine surgeon has confirmed that parts of his vertebrae haven’t formed correctly and he will most likely require surgery intervention to fix this at a later stage.
