Edit. Here is a beautifully written message from Jon’s eldest daughter.
Hey there,
Brittany here, Jon’s eldest daughter.
We’d like to first of all thank you all for taking time out of your day to share & donate as well as learn more about him and what he holds dearest to his heart.
As you may know Jon was in a serious motorcycle accident in Mission on August, 24th 2025. He was rushed by helicopter to Royal Columbian where we learned he has a traumatic spinal injury & has since had surgery at VGH to stabilize the spine. But…….its very unlikely he will ever walk again.
Who is Jon?
Let’s dig right in shall we….
Many of you folks in Mission know him by Jon or Mr.Colman.
He’s so incredibly social it’s obnoxious but that’s just the extrovert that he is.
Always taking a moment to ask his fellow peers how their day has been.
Really taking the time to actively listen to someone’s day, it’s truly something I admire about him.
He’s the baby brother of 5!
Two Sisters & Three Brothers.
Jon also has 3 adult children & 4 grandchildren!
There’s myself as the eldest from a previous marriage & my brother Brandon & sister Hailey from his partnership with my amazing Step Mother Cheryl. Which you may have met here in Mission at Save On when you shop.
Cheryl’s disabled older sister resides with them, prior to their mother’s passing she had been with her mother her entire life.
Hailey is on the spectrum & also lives at home. That being said my father has given much of his life making sure the family members under his roof are loved & cared for no matter the circumstances.
Cheryl’s darling mother Dolores was on home hospice & he was her primary caregiver during that heartbreaking time. He’s a giver, through and through…….
Whom we are helping most is Cheryl, you see her father many years ago prior to meeting my father was tragically killed on his motorcycle here in Mission. So, you can imagine how much Cheryl is suffering trying to make sense of how this almost happened to her again & now she has to face how much her life will be forever changed caring for her permanently disabled partner when she herself has had medical issues & currently unable to return to work during this difficult time.
Where will your financial support go towards?
Rent, it’s quite high & though they will require a move to a more affordable, wheelchair accessible residence in the near future they currently must make where they are work out. As you know rentals especially accessible ones are not a dime a dozen here in Mission.
Cheryl & Hailey do not drive. Support will help them be able to visit Jon while he’s recovering in hospital. Currently he’s in VGH.
They have a large breed dog named Winnie. That big beautiful girl will require doggy daycare during times when her household is visiting my father. Her food & occasional dog walkers to help take some stress off the family for the time being.
Your donations will help keep their lights on, food in their fridge and transportation to get those groceries.
Vehicle Accidents such as this as you know here in BC take years before the victim sees any sort of compensation.
My family needs generous people like you to help ease the burden they are currently facing.
If you cannot donate financially please know that’s okay, never put yourself out for another if you truly can’t.
But, please share Jon’s story, this gofundme & the importance of safe driving with your loved ones.
You never truly know when you get behind the wheel or behind those handle bars if it will be the last time you walk again.
Love & Light
The Colman & Coffin Family
Hello, my name is Sharm Lanctot. I am a friend and coworker of Cheryl. Jon has always been a bright cheerful light at Save On Foods when he came in to pick up Cheryl or shop with her. ( I think he did more visiting than shopping. lol. ) Always had a bright smile on his face and interested to hear how everyone is. My sincerest condolences to Jon and family during this extremely difficult time. Thank you for allowing us to help any way we can. I know sharing your story and accepting help isn’t easy.
Jon was in a very serious accident on his motorcycle. He is now at VGH on life support with a traumatic spine injury. The accident was in no way Jon’s fault.
Jon is in surgery where Drs are doing what they can for his spinal injuries. Only time will tell how successful they are.
The emotional and financial impact on this family is catastrophic. It will not be easy for Cheryl and her daughter to get to and from the hospital as Cheryl does not drive.
On top of this tragedy is that Cheryl was injured at work a day or two before the accident and won’t be receiving a regular pay check for the near future. The rent they pay each month is very high and now they most likely need to move to a place wheelchair accessible.
Update #1 He's out of surgery still on life support does have a little bit of feeling to his ams and leg in spots when asked if he was going to walk again the Dr said doubtful but at least he's alive
