Support for Stephen Ewald & Family – A Husband, Father, and Small Business Owner Facing Terminal Cancer

Hi, my name is Sam Kopp, and I’m asking for help for my brother-in-law, Stephen Ewald, and his family — my sister Ashley, and their three kids.

In March 2025, Stephen was diagnosed with stomach cancer. It came out of nowhere. One month, we were all just living our lives, and the next, everything changed. The cancer spread fast — to his liver and then to his bones. It’s now terminal, and he’s in hospice care at home, surrounded by his family.

Stephen is a husband, a dad, a hard worker, and one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. He and Ashley have three kids — ages 4, 11, and 19. They’re the heart of everything they do. Even while going through treatments and tests, Stephen would still talk about soccer practice, school pickups, and what the kids needed. That never stopped.

He also poured everything he had into opening a small business — Kolache Kafe in Tomball, Texas. It was his dream — a place where families could gather and feel at home. He put all his savings into it, hoping it would provide for the family long-term. He loved getting to know people in the community, greeting customers by name, and remembering their favorite orders.

Now, he can’t work. Ashley is caring for him full-time while also trying to hold things together for the kids. The weight of it all — the medical costs, the everyday bills, the uncertainty — has become overwhelming.

They’ve always given their love and energy to their kids, their neighbors, and their community. They never expected to be in this position. But now, they really need help.
