Support for Steve’s Family

Newest Update (5/13): Steve is still in a fragile state, with the tube in his neck posing risks like stroke and infection. The medical team is keeping a close watch on these concerns. However, there's a bit of good news: the larger tube in his arm has made it easier for him to eat on his own and begin physical therapy. He's been walking a little more each day, eating, sitting up in a chair, and has lost 20 lbs—all requirements toward being eligible for a transplant and placed on the list.

Even with this progress, the road ahead is long. He'll be in the hospital for several more months and won't be able to help his family financially during this time. Any donations to support them would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

Update (5/3): Update on my brother Steve for folks that are asking: He’s still experiencing severe headaches, likely due to hypertension medication causing his blood vessels to dilate. Doctors are adjusting his meds to help relieve the headaches and reduce overall strain on his body. A tube was inserted through his nose into his stomach, likely for medication delivery. Rheumatology is involved after bloodwork showed a positive antibody, suggesting a possible autoimmune disease—possibly scleroderma, potentially triggered by untreated COVID. He had a lung CT and more labs ordered. If diagnosed, treatment may include immunosuppressants, though they carry infection risk. He's now complaining of back pain, being treated with heating pads, massage, and pain meds. A medication causing bleeding from his mouth has been stopped, and ECMO adjustments are ongoing.

Yesterday’s (4/29) update from Steve’s mother in law: was able to eat. Morning good, not so good in afternoon. Very bad headaches from meds. Hoping lungs will continue to heal enough to go home to wait for transplant. Going to try to get him up and moving some.

Small update:
An update on my brother Steve: he had surgery today. They put him on an ECMO machine which took about 4 hours. He's sedated right now. He's most likely going to be on it until he gets a transplant, which God willing is soon! They are going to start testing for the transplant now. Please, please give anything to the go fund me, anything helps at this point.

My brother Steve and his family could really use some love and support right now.

Steve's health has been rapidly declining. He’s currently admitted to the Cleveland Clinic, waiting for a lifesaving lung transplant. His condition is critical, and time is not on our side. On top of the lung issues, Steve also has major heart complications. Every day is a fight.

If you know Steve, you know he’d hate me doing this. We were raised to be self-reliant, to work hard, and never ask for handouts. But right now, he can’t work and hasn’t been able to for some time. That reality has placed a huge financial burden on his family — and anyone who knows Steve knows how much they mean to him. The stress of worrying about providing for them while fighting to stay alive is something no one should carry.

In 2014, we lost our brother Greg and our mother Sandi — just a month apart. Life hasn’t felt quite right since. I can’t bear the thought of losing Steve too, especially knowing financial worries are weighing on him while he fights for his life.

I know times are tough for everyone, but anything — truly, anything — helps. Whether it’s a donation, a kind message, or just sharing this with others, your support means the world to us.

If you have any questions about his condition or want to send Steve a message, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
