Safety Vessel for Barbuda's Young Sailors
Donation protected
It is with pleasure we herald the opening of Micah Earl's Barbuda Sailing School (MEBSS) which will launch in October 2025. The Codrington Lagoon based youth sailing school is being established for the advancement of Barbudan children’s seafaring heritage.
The relative calm of the lagoon is an excellent environment within which to teach swimming and sailing. However, presently the enthusiasm to learn far exceeds the current safety protocols, and the school is in need of additional safety equipment in line with Antigua & Barbuda Search & Rescue (ABSAR) requirements to aid with the monitoring and instruction of the children.
MEBSS is therefore looking to acquire a motorised coastal marine safety boat with a 70HP engine, onboard gear and communications equipment to fully build the training program. It is our intention to train participating children to reach the Royal Yacht Association levels 1, 2, 3 in the sailing program. We also wish to develop a swim program and utilise the safety boat for school day trips to the mangroves.
Essentially, we want to play and sail safely together. The establishment of MEBSS is being assisted thanks to The National Sailing Academy in Antigua, ABSAR, Budget Marine, the regional and international private yachting and charter yacht community, the hospitality industry and their patrons, along with aid from kind friends like you.
