Dearest friends, family, and community members,
I'm writing to you today with a heavy heart. Many of you know Genny Guerrero and her family, truly remarkable individuals who have dedicated the last 30 years to bringing joy and festive cheer to the children of El Sereno and surrounding areas. Year after year, Genny, her family, and a team of dedicated volunteers, including myself, organize a spectacular Christmas event that brings smiles to thousands of faces.
This year's event was a resounding success, with over 3,500 toys distributed to children in need. However, our collective spirit was dealt a devastating blow just two days later. On Monday morning, the trailer containing all the essential equipment for these events – equipment that Genny has painstakingly accumulated over three decades – was stolen.
This wasn't just a theft of property; it was a theft of community spirit, of hope, and of the countless hours of volunteer work poured into these events. The trailer itself is valued at $6,500, but the loss extends far beyond that figure. The stolen sound equipment, movie projector, inflatable screen, extension cords, DJ mixer, and other vital items represent an irreplaceable investment in our community's well-being. Most heartbreaking of all, the Santa suit – a symbol of Christmas magic for so many children – was also taken. The total estimated loss is approximately $25,000, a significant blow to Genny and all those who contribute to her tireless efforts.
This theft affects not just Genny, but every volunteer, every child, and every family who benefits from her generosity and dedication. We are appealing to your kindness and generosity to help us rebuild. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be a significant step towards restoring the magic that Genny brings to our community. Please consider donating what you can, and please share this message with your networks. Your support will help us ensure that future Christmas events, and all the year-round community events Genny organizes, can continue to thrive. Let's show our community's resilience and help Genny recover from this setback. Thank you for your compassion and support.
This equipment is used in collaboration with the El Sereno Bicentennial Committee and the Comité Navideño.
