UPDATE: New fundraising goal - $3,700. We have already reached our fundraising goal to replace the stolen trikes! Thank you all! If we can keep the donations coming in, we can buy a second adaptive trike for Cam to donate to someone who needs one!

A new adaptive adult trike for Cam!

Our family has been blessed by so many people reaching out and asking how they can help Cam get a new adaptive trike. So, we are setting up this GoFundMe account. Thank you in advance to everyone who has contacted us asking how you can help after seeing Cam’s story on WSOC Channel 9, social media, and Queen City News WJZY. The incredible amount of good people in this community really outweighs the one who took Cam’s bike.

Our son Cam is a 19 year-old young man with Down syndrome and autism. His adaptive trike was stolen from our yard the weekend of October 4.

Like many people with Down syndrome, Cam has low muscle tone and he has never mastered the motor skills needed to ride a typical bicycle. An adaptive trike was donated to Cam so that he could experience the freedom and independence associated with bike riding while also receiving the support he needed to allow him to do so. The trike is pushed by an adult while Cam is riding so that the bike moves his leg muscles in a way to actually teach him the motions needed to ride a bike. Cam’s trike was fun, exercise, independence, and therapy all in one.

Money from this GoFundMe will be used for:
  • Buying a new Amtryke ProSeries adaptive adult trike for Cam.
  • Adjustments needed at the bike shop so that all of bike parts (pedals, handle bar, seat, etc.) fit Cam perfectly.
  • A strong bike lock so we can secure the trike better - and teach Cam the importance of taking good care of things that belong to you. (Lesson learned the hard way!)
  • Replacing Kathryn’s adult trike that was also stolen. Cam and his sisters Brianna and Kayleigh had given it to their Mom as a Mothers’ Day gift so that she and Cam could ride trikes together.

Thank you for showing Cam how many truly good people there are in our community!
