Support for Kobe Rivera's Heart Journey....

Hello everyone,

We are reaching out to you with hopeful hearts and a story that touches the very core of our family. Our grandson, Kobe Rivera, was born in October 2024. It was a joyous occasion filled with love and dreams for the future. However, during his one-week check-up, the doctor detected a heart murmur, which led to the discovery of a moderate-sized Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) through an echogram. VSD is a condition where there is a hole between the heart's ventricles, and although it's common in many children and often closes on its own, it was not the case for Kobe. The hole has grown.

Since birth, Kobe has struggled with breathing, a concern initially dismissed as normal by his pediatrician. Over the past months, he has undergone numerous check-ups and monitoring sessions. Only after consulting with another medical provider was it discovered that his breathing difficulties are linked to his VSD; the excess blood flow is causing fluid to seep into his lungs, making it hard for him to breathe.

Kobe is now five months old and has been referred to specialists in San Diego for heart surgery. This surgery is crucial for Kobe's health and well-being, but it requires my son and his family to temporarily relocate and adjust their lives for the next 4-6 months.

Kobe's parents, Jayronne and Kevin, are small business owners on Guam. Jayronne is passionate about community outreach through grappling and organizes the Patgon Jiu Jitsu tournament, while Kevin runs a retail fishing shop and engages with the fishing community. They are devoted parents to Kobe and their three other children, balancing work and family with incredible strength and resilience.
