Putting our faith in action, my family will be taking in a homeless single mother and her 1 and 3-year-old boys. Her story is one of heartbreak and hope. The love of her life and father of her first baby died of a heart attack when the baby was 3 months old. With no family or community, she was forced to live in an unsafe apartment, and there she was raped and became pregnant again. After carrying the baby to term, she decided she could not give the baby away for adoption; her son is now 10 months old.
She is in desperate need of basic supplies and clothing etc and so after we provide for her safe housing. She is looking to find work and provide for them; however, with a job comes the added expenses of childcare, transportation, etc.
My Lenten challenge to you! I humbly ask for you to show your support for Sonya and her 2 babies, and to witness to the sanctity of life by skipping one dining out, 1 Starbucks, or 1 new toy, and giving to this family who has nothing but faith, love, and hope. I will use the money to make sure the basement area is baby safe, and she has the basics she needs while here, and then gift her the remaining amount to afford gas, childcare, new clothes, and even the possibility of funds to put a deposit down on an apt for a place of her own. Please join us in this difficult situation to break the cycle of poverty and despair and give her a chance at a healthy and happy family life. May your generosity be repaid abundantly!
Blessings to you, and thank you for your sacrificial support.
