UPDATE (2/10/25)
Carrol wants you to know that she has been overwhelmed by the love shown to her through your giving, well wishes, words of encouragement, and most of all your prayers.
Carrol met with the doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where she was told that her team of doctors in Greenville had done everything they would have done had she been a patient there at MDACC.
She was told that there is no cure for the type of cancer she has, although there is immunotherapy treatment that will keep the cancer from growing and spreading to her other organs. She will start this treatment in the next few weeks.
Carrol's faith is not shaken, and she still believes God has a miracle for her.
Continue to pray for Carrol as she starts this new treatment.
Carrol says she can't say THANK YOU enough, and that she loves each one of you.
UPDATE: Hello family and friends!
Here’s a short update on our friend, Carrol. She has her initial appointment at MD Anderson in Houston, TX on Monday, February 3rd, where she will meet with a team of doctors who specialize in thymic carcinoma. Carrol will give us more updates when she knows the treatment plan, however, she wants you to know how much she loves and appreciates each of you. To those who have given, she’s overwhelmed with your generosity and says THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You have made it possible for her to get this far.
Original post: Please share this update and continue to pray. With the permission of my friend and sister, Carrol Bailey, I want to share what Carrol has been going through these past several months.
The first and most important thing she required me to say is that her faith is strong and she’s TRUSTING God as her healer.
On May 15th, 2024,Carrol was diagnosed with thymus carcinoma cancer, a rare and aggressive cancer found in her chest. In June she underwent three months of chemo, hoping to shrink the cancer because it was leaning against her aorta and any shrinkage would lessen the chance of rupturing her aorta during the surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, chemo was unsuccessful in shrinking the tumor. Although this was discouraging news, Carrol and her family and friends joined together in prayer to believe that her upcoming surgery would end with a miracle.
Carrol had surgery in October and to our shock, the cancer had spread to her right lung and to her heart. The doctors removed part of her lung and most of the sac that holds the heart but could not remove the entire mass in her chest or the cancer that had spread to her heart.
To our devastation, three weeks after surgery Carrol started radiation, only to find that the tumor had grow BACK in her chest. Today (1/10/2025) is her last radiation treatment and yet another devastation when the doctor shared this week that most of the tumor is still there. The doctors said that the radiation will continue to work for a few weeks and there MAY be more shrinkage... more heartbreaking news.
Knowing that there is very little hope as far as what the doctors can suggest, so many of Carrol's family and friends have suggested Carrol seek a second opinion, as well as the doctor. As Carrol and I were talking about this, she had so many concerns as to the costs of a second opinion, especially as it would require travel and if her insurance would cover costs. Myself and so many others have been encouraging her to move forward despite concerns of cost.
Carrol speaks highly of her team of doctors here in Greenville, and all they have done. After much research, she has contacted the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, where they specialize in the type of cancer she has. Carrol needs a miracle!
Most of you know Carrol from Redemption and serving as Pastor Ron and Hope Carpenter’s assistant for 20+ years. If you know her, you love her. She has sown relentlessly into the kingdom of God. She has sown relentlessly into myself and so many others. I have never had a friend like Carrol! She is a ray of sunshine! There is never a time in her presence that you don't feel loved and cherished! As a true friend, she always speaks the truth to me, even when it's not what I want to hear :) , and always in love. There have been many times she spoke into my life and it was wisdom that changed my situation (as I applied the wisdom in my actions) and stayed with me as life lessons. There is not ENOUGH good I can say about her. My heart is broken at all she is going through but in ALL of this journey, there has not been ONE time I have called her that she wasn't her regular chipper self (even right after more and more devastating news) and asks me how I am. There is no other like her. I know SO MANY will have similar stories!!! Please share those in social media comments to brighter her day :)
I truly believe this story will end with GLORY to
God! I believe in miracles! Would you please join me today in sowing into this amazing person? This will assist her in having the finances to travel back and forth to Houston with a caregiver (this will be multiple trips), finances for hotels, food while traveling, and any expenses not covered by her medical insurance. MOST of all, please PRAY for my friend. GOD is faithful! and God's people are faithful <3. God bless YOU!
