In rural South Africa, where 80% of children live in multidimensional poverty, Ubuntu Mundo feeds 600 children every day. Since its founding in 2016, Ubuntu Mundo has served over 300,000 hot, nutritious meals, and it is just getting started.
For Ubuntu Mundo, the emphasis is food. They buy land, establish local organic gardens, and build kitchens. They engage in commercial farming. They provide much needed jobs. They create a space for playfulness and creativity. They feed children every day.
Inspired by the work of Ubuntu Mundo's founders -- Cecilya Bravo and Roland Oosterhout -- a group of New Yorkers formed Ubuntu-USA to join the work of feeding vulnerable children. We work closely with Ubuntu Mundo to understand the needs of the communities served in South Africa. Through our annual grant-making process, Ubuntu-USA has supported Ubuntu Mundo, which is changing the world. One child at a time. One meal at a time.
We believe that access to nutritious food in a loving, safe environment is the foundation for a healthier life, a brighter future. We believe that a holistic approach, on the road to economic sustainability, is what sets Ubuntu Mundo apart.
While the challenges are enormous, the opportunity to make a difference is also great.
