Hi, I’m Rachelle - a lot of you know me and have stayed updated with my life over the years. As you’re probably well-aware, I’ve been fighting to gain full custody of my 4-year-old daughter, Halsey, for the last four years.
In 2021, my life was turned upside down as I tried to balance being a single mother of three, working a full time job, a secondary part time job AND trying to fight a custody battle. In court, Halsey’s father testified, under oath, to struggling with a meth addiction and repeatedly committing acts of domestic violence against me in front of the children, as well as threatening to kill our daughter, Halsey Harris.
In 2022, I agreed to 60-40 custody because I was exhausted and couldn’t afford to keep missing work to attend court hearings and couldn’t afford all the associated court fees and still pay my bills.
I have been working as much as I can to secure an attorney to take it back to court and regain full custody of my daughter.
In May 2023, this fire was reignited after my daughter disclosed to her teachers and me that there had allegedly been inappropriate sexual behavior against Halsey by her father, including touching her private parts. A DCF case was opened, and BCSO had been involved, but since there wasn’t enough concrete evidence for conviction, the case was suspended, and time-sharing was resumed. My daughter was hysterical and in fear of going back to her father’s for these reasons, among miscellaneous others. I fought as hard as I could, and it wasn’t enough.
Now in 2024, my daughter, far more competent and verbal than in the past, has AGAIN come home and disclosed she has been a victim of sexual battery. An investigation was opened, but there wasn’t enough evidence to make an arrest. I filed an injunction for DV on behalf of my daughter and was granted a temporary injunction for protection against her father. Unfortunately, at the hearing for the final injunction, a motion was heard by the court that all of the evidence that would reasonably suggest that my child was in imminent danger was discarded on the basis that I knew of her father’s affiliation with the Warlocks 1% Outlaw motorcycle club and his history of DV when I entered into the parenting plan in 2022 and therefore inadmissible.
Though I lost the battle, I have not yet lost the war, and I am still petitioning for modification of the parenting plan and timeshare agreement in family court.
For these reasons, I find myself in need of procuring an attorney for the sake of my child’s safety. My daughter means the world to me, anything helps.
Thank you so much.
