Help Steve Fight Cancer—Again
Earlier this year, our family celebrated a huge milestone: Steve reached his 5-year cancer-free mark after beating two cancers at the same time—and doing it during a pandemic.
In March, we celebrated another miracle: the 1-year anniversary of surviving a massive heart attack—the kind doctors call “the widow maker.”
But in April, life dealt us another devastating blow. Steve started having chest pains again, and we rushed him to the hospital, fearing another heart attack. After days of testing, we received the heartbreaking news: Steve has cancer again—for the third time. This time it’s Stage 4 colon cancer that has already spread to his liver.
On June 9th, Steve was hospitalized again for two weeks battling a serious infection, and he is now recovering at home. His wife has been by his side every step of the way, taking unpaid leave to be with him during his hospital stay and provide full-time care at home. She has since had to return to work full-time, balancing her job while still providing full-time care for Steve and managing the household.
Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of a long, difficult road ahead. Chemo, radiation, and two major surgeries are planned over the coming months. Because of complications from his previous cancers, Steve needs specialized treatments and procedures that insurance will not fully cover. Each surgery will also require lengthy recovery periods, meaning both Steve and his wife will be taking more unpaid leave from work and increasing financial strain.
How You Can Help
We are asking for help to cover:
Ongoing medical bills and out-of-pocket expenses
Specialized treatments and surgeries not fully covered by insurance
Household expenses during periods of unpaid medical leave
The costs of caregiving support and recovery time
Despite all of this, Steve continues to face each day with his signature sense of humor, resilience, and love for his family. His four amazing children, his wife, and the rest of us are walking this road with him, but we can’t do it alone.
If you are able, any donation—big or small—will help ease the financial burden so Steve and his family can focus on what matters most: his fight to heal. We are grateful for any support offered and we thank you for standing with us as we must again navigate this familiar journey.
Steve feels the strength of everyone who is fighting with him and for him. Thank you for standing with Steve once again.
With gratitude and love,
