Join In Improving Our Community Trail at Jasper Park

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Hunter and I live in Upper Milford Township in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 71 in Macungie. I'm a junior at Emmaus High School. At EHS, I'm a Hornet Ambassador, National Honor Society member, Interact Club member, and I throw for the Emmaus Track and Field Team. I also lifeguard at the Upper Perkiomen YMCA throughout the year and volunteer with my family for Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue.

For my Eagle Scout project, I am putting water bars on the sloped parts the walking trail system at Upper Milford Township's Jasper Park, which is at 4950 Vera Cruz Road in Emmaus. I have been going to Jasper Park since I was young and have always enjoyed walking on the trails with my dogs around the park. However, after every rainstorm, I noticed gullies and washout along the trails. This project will prevent this from occurring and allow people to walk the trails freely without interruptions and uneven surfaces.

To achieve this improvement, I will be placing a series of gravel and geotextile fabric water bars/rolling dips to intercept and divert the water to reduce stormwater runoff and encourage infiltration. This will improve trail conditions and significantly reduce the labor required to maintain the trail in a serviceable condition. I’m raising money to purchase the required materials like 3 tons of large, clean crushed stone (1-3” size), 3 tons of small, clean crushed stone (¾-1” size), a 72” wide roll of geotextile drain fabric, 35 one-gallon wetland/pollinator-friendly plants, sod staples for geotextile fabric, grass seed and straw, and grass seed.
