Hi! We’re Sophie and Rhiannon, final-year Trainee Clinical Psychologists with a shared passion for supporting children’s mental health. This summer, as part of our Doctoral training, we’ve been given an incredible opportunity to travel to Cambodia and work with Care for Children, a charity partnering with the Cambodian government to improve care for children living in residential homes.
During our 6-week work placement, our role will involve creating and delivering training to Cambodian social workers on the impact of childhood trauma, helping them better support the emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs of the children in their care.
This work will directly impact the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in Cambodia, and will be a huge learning experience for us, both professionally and personally.
We’re aiming to raise £3,000-£4,000 in total (£1,500-£2,000 each) to cover our basic costs, and we’d be incredibly grateful for any support, whether that’s a donation, a share of this page, or attending one of our upcoming fundraisers.
Along with our partners Tom and Richard, we’re walking 975.9 km in 60 days between May and June - a symbolic 10% of the journey from Lancaster to Cambodia - to raise funds for our upcoming placement, where we will be developing and delivering trauma-informed training for social workers who support children in care. Every step we take helps us get closer to the children we’ll be supporting.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting us on this journey.
Rhiannon & Sophie
