Help Me Rebuild: A Repatriation Journey Home

Even in a moment of professional triumph, having just started an incredible new job, I find myself facing the painful reality that things in this city, state, and country are getting worse for people like me. As an undocumented person, I’ve navigated endless barriers, and while I’m lucky to be able to take my job with me to Mexico, I still don’t have the financial safety net to make this life-changing move on my own.

Repatriating to Guadalajara isn’t a choice made lightly. It's a deeply personal and necessary step toward safety, sustainability, and healing. I’ve long admired Mexico from afar, and now I’m preparing to return and reconnect, to build a life in a place where I have a small but mighty community rooted in the transnational social justice work I've done over the years.

But starting over, even with a job, comes with very real costs. I’m reaching out to community to ask for support to cover:

Travel costs for me and my emotional support animal, Lorca

Initial housing expenses, including the requirement to pay two months of rent up front plus a deposit if I cannot secure a local sponsor (Aval)

Legal and resettlement costs as I navigate life in a new country

Basic living expenses while I adjust and begin to sustain myself on my own
