I am raising money for direct artist support in the DC dance community.
My goal is $5,000 which will help support an upcoming choreographer commission supporting local artists as choreographers, designers, technicians, photographers, panelists, and more!
If you know me or have worked with me over the last 12 years, you know I always describe my role in the arts as being that of a CONNECTOR.
In Dance Programming at the Kennedy Center I always believed that my greatest responsibility was to listen to the artists we were presenting, understand their greatest needs and biggest dreams, and make CONNECTIONS. Sometimes that meant connecting major dance companies to the Production, Marketing, and Education teams at the Center who could bring their shows to our stages in front of sold out audiences. Other times that meant connecting DMV choreographers who had big ideas to the right people inside the institution who could help us navigate the red tape and bring a dream to life.
And while my time at the Kennedy Center has now come to a close, I am definitely not done playing that CONNECTOR role across this incredible dance community.
And that’s why today, I’m thrilled to be announcing DC Dance Network!
This is a project that has been in the dream phase for over a year, but after everything our city and our community have been through these past 10 months, I couldn’t think of a better time to bring these dreams to all of you and invite you to join me!
I DREAM of a dance community where artists are celebrated for their choreography and performances, but are also recognized (and compensated) for their skills as graphic designers, stage managers, panelists, writers, and more.
I DREAM of a dance community where folks who are looking for mentors, collaborators, or advisors can ask questions, and be met with peers who are happy to share how they have navigated, or make a connection to a contact they rely on.
I DREAM of a dance community where no one has to go it alone. Where all of us are here to help build connections and forge relationships that help all of our visions come to life.
I invite you to join the DC Dance Network.
Add your name to the list of those making, supporting, funding, or watching dance work across the DMV. Share some of your resources (whether financial or skills-based) to make our community more connected.
Benefit from the expertise and generosity of others.
We can only achieve so much alone - the network is ALWAYS stronger when we build it together.
