Join Dauntless' Dance into Expansive New Facility

As Dauntless fast approaches the anniversary that will mark an incredible 13-year run in our current home, we’ve been hit with a curveball: the new owners of our little strip center notified us early this spring of a rent increase that prices us out of our space. We cried, took a nap, chugged some cold brew concentrate, pulled our laptops into a little circle, and started scouring the center of the city for options. After a couple of weeks, we struck gold: a warehouse space ripe for conversion into a performing arts center.

We drew up plans, priced materials and labor costs, and jumped into contract negotiations with an enthusiastic new landlord for a space that will house 3 separate class spaces, the largest of which will convert into a petite black box studio. After picking up the keys on June 15th, our crew sprang into action kicking off clean-up, demolition, repair, and construction efforts.

As a queer, neurodivergent-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating in service to a diverse community in a city where accessible studio and performance spaces are a rarity, and with shifting social and political situations impacting arts funding, our crew sees an opportunity to help ensure that members of our community are able to establish and maintain access to the facilities they need to continue to make art and connections across movement disciplines, performance styles, and social circles.

Introducing our second curve ball: in the interval between initial estimates and the signing of the new rental contract, the cost of general construction materials has risen between 30-40% as a result of tumultuous trade and market trends. Here’s where you come in:

Our goal is to raise $20,000 ($25,000 stretch goal) and be ready to open our new doors for business on August 1st. As a nonprofit, all of your donations are tax deductible! Any amount helps, and if you’d like to donate your time, you can sign up to join our brave and Dauntless volunteer crew here .
