Join Darlene Cave's Fight Against Cancer

Our grandmother (MawMaw), Darlene Cave, was diagnosed with FIGO stage IIB poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the cervix; or in simpler terms ‘Cervical Cancer’, in May 2024. After various consults and much discussion with her treatment team in St. Louis, the plan moving forward will consist of both internal/external radiation treatments, alongside IV chemotherapy. The total treatment duration should last around 8 weeks total, followed by 8 weeks of individualized post-care.

The positive news is that the malignancy is localized, offering a good prognosis with immediate treatment as ordered. The not-so-positive news is the various financial constraints that accompany the already vigorous treatment.

Logistics have already made receiving treatment somewhat of a hassle. Upon initial consultation, it was Darlene’s desire to receive treatment at the Siteman Cancer Center in South County. Although she could receive all external treatments at this facility, she cannot receive the ordered chemotherapy and internal radiation treatment, therefore forcing her to make the decision to have all treatment take place at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

In addition to logistics, the treatment will require Darlene to take a medical leave of absence from employment. As one could imagine, this will create quite a financial burden. As a single contributor to the household finances with a fixed income, this unfortunately induces additional worry during an already extremely stressful time.

We make this Go-Fund-Me in hopes of alleviating the weight of the impending financial burden the upcoming weeks present for Darlene. Any contributions made to this Go-Fund-Me will assist with all medical-related expenses during Darlene’s treatment. Lord-willing, if there were to be an excess of funds at the end of Darlene’s treatment, they will be paid forward to someone of need.

We also want to extend the understanding that not everyone can financially contribute to this fundraiser. If that should be the case, in lieu of finance, we do also ask for prayers. Prayers for comfort, clarity, and support. Additionally, if you have any story/memory you wish to share in your time knowing Darlene, I am certain they would all bring a smile to her face…believe us, we know that throughout her time at Bob’s, Big Book, and the East Prairie Police Department gifted many stories to tell! I know she cannot wait to read them.
