I am starting this account for one of my employees. He married his wife Abby in March of 2016 and was hired in April of 2016 as a police officer in a small rural MN town. They currently have three young children and are now expecting 3 more. I am hoping to make life a little easier and less stressful for them as their family of 5 becomes a family of 8. Below is their story.
The Johnson Family joined together as a family of 5. They were married in March of 2016. You can tell it has been a blessing so far! They made the choice to try to have children together. They tried for about six months and hoped for one blessing and were blessed with three…THAT MAKES 8 total! So here they are with triplets on the way with an expected due date of anywhere from the end of April to June 2017. This has caused a severe amount of stress and fear of what is to come. Mom is anticipated to be out of work from sometime starting in the February/March timeframe if not sooner depending on her and the babies health/risk. Due to the difficulties finding daycare for triplets and neither of them able to support our family on our sole income, they will be sitting on a single income from that timeframe through September.
Job Situation: Dad currently serves in the military and is a police officer in a small town community. This provides for the family...just not enough alone to make it. Mom works as an operating room nurse in a hospital. Great income...but...she is expected to go on bed rest/home rest at 20 weeks which will be in February sometime and is also expected to spend sometime in the hospital. Depending on when the babies come, there is the likelihood of a NICU stay for them as well. There currently are no available daycare providers available to take triplets in the area and none are available to take even one infant currently. This will cause Mom to stay home with the babies at least until September possibly longer unless something were to open up. Also, Mom was advised that after 14 weeks of FMLA, her job will be posted and she will have to start searching for a new position. If she doesn’t find one within a year, she will lose her seniority. This is all a great big giant ball of stress…they are maintaining a positive outlook the best they can. They will know more as time progresses of course.
Vehicle situation...they both currently just purchased/traded in for used vehicles and neither of them will hold a family of eight (of course they weren’t expecting being blessed with triplets at the time). Only expecting one, they are now in a position of high amounts of negative financial equity. They are working towards finding cheaper/older/reliable/bigger vehicles, but are unable to get a loan for them due to their current upside down equity situation. This is forcing them to put every last penny they have towards the negative equity in order to make an attempt at getting a bigger more suitable vehicle.
With the anticipation of medical bills, lack of income, all of their other bills, daycare in the future, and well the obvious need of a much larger vehicle...they sit there praying to God for answers. They have been working diligently to readdress their finances to try to make things work and are hoping for the best. Currently, they anticipate a huge shortfall in income to get through this timeframe. They assume their medical coverage will assist with some of the pregnancy...but her FMLA will run out far before the income starts coming back in. There are additional reasons Mom has been in and out of the hospital due to other complications and slowly everything is starting to pile up and overwhelm their finances.
They understand they are not looking for handouts and want to be able to provide for their family. "God doesn't give you anything you can't handle"! They have been blessed with support in many many ways. They are looking for some genuine assistance from those willing to help out. Any amount would mean the world to them, even if it is simply $5 and a word of encouragement. They thank God everyday for the blessings and miracles of life. They are thankful He has chosen them to have such a large wonderful family! They continue to pray for the health of Mommy and the babies...and all the rest of their family through this journey! It will definitely be an eye opening, humbling experience for them.
Thank you in advance, this means the world to the Johnson Family!
