I never in a million years thought i'd have to do something like this. I'm writing this on behalf of my aunt, Colleen Engels. My dad, John Engels suddenly passed away on September 14, 2025.

John's passing was sudden, which is leaving a finical responsibility on our house hold, which was already struggling before his passing. His funeral and personal expenses that have been left behind are far more than we can handle at this time.

We're not asking for a lot, even $5 gets us a gallon of milk, which even when he was with us, was a struggle.

Now let me tell you about the man. the legend himself.

He was the kind of man whose presence could light up a room-warm, generous and endlessly loving. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He found wonder in the world around him and joy in every day. He was a caring and passionate man, devoting his life to family and his community.

My dad served his community all his life. He was the founder of the Kearny Volunteer Ambulance Association and served as an EMT, he worked as a firefighter for the Newark Fire Company in Newark, NJ.

After moving to the Pocono's in 2017, he served his community as a Polk Township Fire Police Captain, he also served as a firefighter for Polk.

All he did was give back to his community. That's the type of man he was. He would take food out of his mouth if he felt you needed it more. He'd give you his left arm if it was something you needed.

This pretty much sums up my dad as a man, father, grandfather, uncle, and service responder.

And again, we're not asking for a lot, just enough to make sure there is always milk and bread for us who he left behind. He left me, my sister brittney, his sister colleen, his puppy (fatty as he called her) Shelby, and his guinea pig that he loved more then us Rolo (guinea as he would call her).

I thank everyone for their condolences, and support during this impossibly difficult time.
