Sunday, March 21st, we lost a grandfather, father, brother, friend, and classmate – John Skeens. With his children Josh, Jacob, and Jessica by his side, John passed at his home after a brave battle with liver cancer.

John touched many people throughout his life. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor. John would always have time whenever family or friends needed him. Whether it was lending an ear, offering advice, or donating his time - it was never felt as a burden.

Above all, John always supported his children and his two-year-old granddaughter Nova (who lovingly referred to him as “Papa John”). He was a coach for their youth sports and helped with 4H. He worked hard for his family and was always there for them, they looked up to him tremendously. Now, they will lead their young adult lives without the advice, guidance, and assistance from their father.

John was a member of the Monroe High Class of 1989; he spent countless hours organizing class reunions, posting updates to the class Facebook page and ensuring people stayed connected.

Many of John’s family, friends, and classmates have asked how they can help. This account was created by the outpouring of love and support for John, his children, and granddaughter. The funds raised here will help pay any remaining medical expenses, house maintenance and expenses, and see to their immediate needs.
